In commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Democracy under the global theme ‘An Era of Democratic Unrest’, IAWRT Uganda has customised its local theme on; ‘Mobilising Media solidarity for women and girls trapped in oppression’.
Inspired by this theme, IAWRT Uganda is mobilising an activity involving a cross-section of women in the media and beyond to participate in an online panel discussion in solidarity with women and girls trapped in oppressive oppression.

ABOUT IAWRT UGANDA CHAPTER
IAWRT is a global organization with members in 54 countries and 15 national chapters in Africa, USA, Asia and Europe. Established in 1951 by professional women working in and with all forms of media and communication. IAWRT envisions a global environment where the role and space of women in the media is fully recognized, is safe and secure, ensures freedom of speech without fear of online/offline abuse, where the portrayal and image of women is balanced and fair and where women have an equal share of positions at all levels in mainstream, digital and community media.
IAWRT Uganda Chapter, therefore, is one of the 15 chapters that make up IAWRT-International, The Uganda Chapter was established and registered in Uganda in 2011. The chapter membership comprises of female journalists and likeminded female professional practitioners.
