GANAP NA BABAE OPENS 2010 CINEMALAYA FILMFEST

Ganap na Babae (Fulfilled Woman), a film for women made by women directors, will open the 6th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition on July 9, 2010 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.

Mercedez Cabral plays a prostitute who bares her soul as a mother. Sue Prado is a devoted sister who prefers to stay in her drought-ridden barrio to take care of the family. Boots Anson-Roa plays a widow who falls in love with a younger man. Three stories are interwoven to see the plight of Filipino women from the sensitive eyes of three contemporary women directors.

Cinemalaya is an all-digital film festival and competition that aims to discover, encourage and honor the cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and integrity.  This year, it offers 24 new films in competition in the New Breed category and the Directors Showcase, the Cinemalaya Film Congress, the LVN retrospective, exhibition films, fora and exhibits.
